Why the Junior League?
“My favorite part of the Junior League is being consistently impressed and inspired by all the other women in the league. We have such kind, welcoming, and powerful members who are committed to making lasting change in our community. Making friends with like-minded women has made a huge impact in my life.”
Favorite Junior League Memory?
“Attending my first SPAC meeting. Listening to the women report on the legislative work they were doing for foster care youth and victims of human trafficking was incredible. This small group of women across the state has made a huge impact on so many people. I’m honored to be joining them and am looking forward to learning more.”
Community Chair: Mindy Williams-Abbott

About Mindy:
I was born and raised in Genesee County to a General Motors worker and a social worker who taught me to work hard and help others, and that’s really all I’ve ever known. I’m a mom to my son and bonus kids and a wife to a man who loves me for exactly who I am. Family and community mean everything to me, and if I can leave them both a little better each time I’m with them than when I found them, then my life’s mission is fulfilled.
Why the Junior League?
I joined JLF because I wanted something just for me. I often go by “mom,” “Mindy from Whaley,” and most recently, “wife,” but I think it’s so important to fill our own cups while we’re filling everyone else’s. I love that JLF gives me the chance to simply be myself among incredible women from all walks of life who share the same passion for community.
Favorite Junior League Memory?
My favorite JLF memory actually happened before I even became a member. During the annual community bus tour, the group stopped by Whaley to learn more about our work and drop off treats for the kids. I’ll never forget seeing 20+ women walk in, determined to learn, to ask questions, and to truly understand how they could help. They stayed longer than planned, and their energy was contagious. In the weeks that followed, many of them reached out individually to continue the conversation, and that’s when I knew I wanted to be part of something so impactful.
Since then, I’ve loved every project we’ve tackled. From building a fruit stand for Habitat for Humanity to organizing for Center of Hope, putting together meal boxes for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, and my personal favorite, the Holiday Party at the Heddy’s. Every experience reminds me of the power of women coming together to make a difference.
